TL;DR: Reading Classes are a new training format in GoodTime that lets teams deliver structured, asynchronous lessons before interviews begin. Designed to replace or supplement external LMS (learning Management System) tools specifically for interviewer training. These classes include chapters filled with links, videos, and formatted content. Once added to a training path, Reading Classes become required prerequisites—trainees can’t start shadows or reverse shadows until they’ve completed their assigned reading class(es). This automates the transition from theory to practice, saves time, and eliminates manual tracking. Trainees get a clear, email-guided experience with easy progress tracking. More enhancements—like embedded videos and quizzes—are coming soon!

Goodtime’s new Reading Classes offer a flexible and powerful way to deliver foundational training to interviewers—before they begin shadowing or participating in interviews. Unlike traditional training formats that rely on live observations, Reading Classes let you build structured, asynchronous training experiences using articles, videos, and more.
What Are Reading Classes?
Traditionally, Goodtime’s training paths were built around:
- Shadows – where a trainee observes a live interview.
- Reverse Shadows – where a trainee leads an interview while being observed.
Now, with Reading Classes, you can create stand-alone, content-rich lessons designed to educate trainees on:
- Interview best practices
- Company culture
- Internal tools or processes
- Any other onboarding topics
These classes act as prerequisites, ensuring interviewers have completed theoretical learning before transitioning into practice.
How It Works
1. Creating a Reading Class
- Navigate to the training module and create a new Reading Class.
- Add a name and build your content using chapters (also called “sections”).
- Chapters can include:
- Formatted text (e.g., bold, emojis)
- External links (e.g., videos, articles)
- Embedded resources (coming soon: direct image/video embeds)
2. Adding to a Training Path
- Create or edit a training path.
- Add a new class and change its type to Reading Class.
- Select the specific Reading Class you built.
- Note: Feedback options are disabled for Reading Classes since there’s no live observation.
3. Enforcing Completion Order
Once a Reading Class is placed at the beginning of a training path:
- Trainees must complete it before moving forward.
- Shadows and reverse shadows are blocked until the reading is done.
This automated flow ensures every interviewer starts with the same foundational knowledge—without needing a separate LMS or manual tracking.
What Trainees See
Trainees receive an email prompting them to begin their assigned Reading Class. When they open the class:
- Chapters are laid out in order on the left.
- They can read through content, click embedded resources, and track progress.
- When done, they hit Finish Class, which updates their training path and unlocks their next steps (like a Shadow).
Benefits
All training in one platform—no need for third-party LMS.
Automates the shift from theory to practice.
Saves coordinator time and avoids manual errors.
Keeps learning structured, measurable, and scalable.
Reading Classes are the new starting point for interviewer training, streamlined, engaging, and built to grow.
